Yesterday our prayers were answered and we were liberated from our hospital room! We literally were pretty confined there. Elizabeth was "on contact," which meant that every person that entered the room had to have a mask on. (Our friend visitors were rebels though; let it be known that they were forewarned.) All the nurses and doctors and cleaning people and room service bringers put a disposable gown on over their clothes and had on gloves and masks. And every time one of them came in, even if it was just to bring her food, Elizabeth put her hands up and said, "No, no, no!"
It was pitiful.
Jude skirted the no-siblings-12-and-under-allowed rule via his breastfeeding status. But that also meant that he couldn't leave the room either because he could be carrying E's germs. (Um, who isn't carrying germs in a hospital?!) So all four of us...uh, bonded...for a few days.
Whew. There is just so much to say! Let's start with some pictures:
We had FANTASTIC friends bring us food, movies, extra blankets, more food, and presents for the patient. I'm still finding little smiley faces and penguin stickers, the latest on the bottom of a dirty sock. She loves them.
A few hours before we left we got her out of the bed and wheeled her around a bit. The mask makes the whole thing a little plague-y. People were definitely giving us a wide berth. Can't blame 'em!
We tried with Judah. We really did.
She was doing so well to hold it up over her little nose!
Precious girl.
Two days in a hospital and no hair dryer did me no favors. Why Tony didn't tell me I was walking around with that thing sticking up out of my head, I don't know. Yikes.
Getting that IV OUT!
J helped by sleeping through it all...in the bathroom.
Don't you just want to pat that little booty?!
There's the fan Emily commandeered for us from an unused treatment room. It saved Judah's schedule and thereby, our sanity.
And the stickers again on our way home.
Today we're working on fluids and food and walking again. She's pretty puny and wobbles a lot when she tries to get around, but that's what a solid week of no walking will do to you. We're slowly getting back to normal.
Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts and well-wishes. God is good and faithful and sometimes we need to go through the mire so He can lift us out. It's a sweet reminder that He is able to do it!
